Ask me anything!

Maybe this is your first time in front of the camera together. Or maybe you’re total pros! Either way, I’m here to help. Read through this page for all the ins and outs of my approach to photography and business. Who said talking about my five-step image backup process isn’t fun?

Q. What is your background in photography?

A. I am a professional photojournalist and bring over a decade of experience in the newspaper and magazine world to my career as a wedding photographer. My work in the high-pressure, quickly changing environment of journalism means I’m always on my toes. I’m used to juggling a lot of different personalities and stressful situations, all while keeping the day moving and staying on schedule. Call me crazy, but weddings are an environment that I thrive in! As a photographer I love helping ease the day-of pressure on my couples, so they can focus on enjoying their wedding and their guests.

Q. How do you describe your photography style?

A. True to my photojournalism roots, my wedding photography is all about documenting the day as it unfolds. If your veil or pocket square needs a quick zhuzh for portraits, I’ve got my eye on it, but for the most part I capture moments as they happen. Intimate, unguarded and genuine. When it comes to portrait sessions, I give couples easy prompts and gentle directions that lead to natural, beautiful moments. I want to capture you both as you are together; every couple has their own body language and intimacy level and I want to stay as true to that as possible.

Q. What about your editing style?

A. I’m a big believer in editing images in a true-to-life style; I want you to look back on these photos in ten years and remember the sun shining on your face or the dramatic clouds that rolled in during cocktail hour (don’t fret, I have a fun anecdote about why rain on your wedding day is good luck. Ask me about it!). You have carefully picked this venue and the colors of your flowers and the wedding party outfits and all of the other wonderful details, and that should be reflected in your images.

Q. How do you deliver our images? How many are provided?

A. Within six weeks of your wedding, I will send you an online gallery with an average of 400-600 edited, high-resolution images. It’s password protected, easy to share with friends and family, and all yours to enjoy. Images are ready for sharing social media, and you can order prints directly through the site. I’m happy to show you a sample gallery from previous clients so you can get an idea of what a full wedding day looks like!

Q. Do you back up our images?

A. Besides always showing up early (and being ready for anything), this is one of the most important aspects of my job. I take image storage with the utmost seriousness. Both of my cameras save images to two memory cards at the same time for redundancy, and when I leave our session these cards are stored in two separate places. Once I’m home, those images will be saved to two different hard drives, one of which is stored off-site in case of emergency.

Q. Do you provide engagement sessions?

A. Yes! If you book at least six months in advance, every wedding package I create includes an engagement session at a location within 90 minutes of Portland, Oregon. If you would like to book just an engagement session (or you have a surprise proposal in the works!) get in touch here.

Q. Speaking of, what wedding packages are available?

A. For 2024, wedding collections begin at $3,300 for six hours of coverage. Every wedding that I photograph is delivered via an online gallery with at least 400-600 high-resolution, edited images. For more details and specific pricing for your needs, get in touch as soon as possible! Bookings for 2024 dates are filling up now.

Q. Will you travel for a wedding?

A. Absolutely. While I am based in Portland, Oregon, I have been fortunate to photograph weddings across the United States (as well as recent destination weddings in Bogota, Colombia and Islay, Scotland!). I have also worked as a photojournalist in Arizona, Oregon and New Jersey, as well as internationally in Southeast Asia and Australia. I grew up in England — where most of my family still lives — and a few years ago I lived in Guatemala and Spain for six months just for fun. It’s safe to say that I LOVE to travel.

Q. What kind of equipment do you use?

A. My first camera was a Nikon D40 - way back in high school - and I’ve been loyal to the brand since (I’m a creature of habit, and I love the way the colors look). I work with two full-frame cameras at every wedding, and I always have a third hidden away in case of emergency. I use a variety of professional-grade zoom and prime lenses depending on what the situation calls for, and while I prefer natural light in most circumstances I do bring a lighting kit with me to every wedding. If you’re a camera geek I’m happy to chat more gear specifics, but generally I believe the best tool a photographer has is their creativity and skills and not the tools that they use.

Q. Do you have business insurance?

A. Yes! I have business insurance through Country Financial and I am happy to provide documentation if you or your venue require it.
